Unit 35, task 2, p5

The alterations for this post is quite simple as it cant be too complicated due to it being a daycare flyer. An overload of information will ruin the simplicity of the design. Firstly, I have changed the colour to a royal blue as it isn't too vibrant so it is easier to see , in addition to being bold . I have changed the placement of the pictures so its the second thing the reader can see which portrays a good environment and pleasant vibe for the Daycare , as well as encouraging the reader to carry on reading about the Daycare.
The opening times at the bottom have been changed to a clear white , against the pink checkered border.
I did this because this is the most important piece of information if the parent decides to enroll their child into the daycare, it has to be clear what time it is open otherwise nobody will come.

To this image I changed nearly the whole van so it is simplistic and there isn't much going on. I took away the detailed brick work layering and changed it to two colours, red and orange. I did this because it is in block colours and the name of the business will be more memorable than the look of the van , in addition to this I chose these two colours because they still link with the concept of bricks and their colouring. I used the same font 'playbill' but I took away the italics so it is easier to read. I also changed the font of the contact information so that is easier to read also , contact information needs to be clear as that's the means of business if a customer needs a builder out of notice , when seeing cross them on the road.

The first thing I have changed is the thickness of  the line which makes up the logo , so it is more smooth overall .In addition to this i have added pictures of the band to represent the points in the punctuation, I have done this so it is known who the band members are. I have made these specific changes to collectively make the logo stand out more because it was quite boring and dull before hand, this meaning it wouldn't appear appealing and be recognisable to anyone. Although the colour scheme hasn't changed it is still eye catching because the band is quite a boyish band , and their clothes are normally around the darker range of colours. This meaning it will appeal to the bands fan base.

 How to save guide.

There are two kinds of image compression, lossy and lossless.
  • Lossy compression is when you Decompress , compressed data that will not have the exact same properties as the original , although this will only be visible at a closer look.
  •  When decompressing a lossless image you will end up with the exact same image although this compression uses more memory which isn't really efficient enough to be on the web.

Internet Graphics:

JPEG is a lossy image type and you can control the compression level in image editors. This is good for saving images like photographs , drawings with different shades and images that contain gradients with millions of colours as it compresses them down to smaller sizes , sufficient enough to still look appealing and visible. Overall it is good for the web as it uses a small amount of memory although sufficiently similar to the original image. Due to all of this ,saving in this file format for internet graphics will be the best choice. The image below shows the same picture in the format of JPEG , with different qualities. It's visible that there is a slight change in resolution and sharpness but it is still usable within the web, this also means the higher quality the longer it takes to download which would mean it would be better to pick an average quality. There is also another format which is widely supported and that is the GIF image format ,this being supported by nearly every web format.

Large Format Graphics:
For large format graphics the PSB format would be best as it is a file extension for an image file used in Photoshop , these is a large document format and is similar to a PSD but can hold a larger image size. This supports large graphic formats as it can save an image size from 300,000 to 300,000 pixels. You can also save high dynamic range, 32‑bits-per-channel images as PSB files. Although the PSB format would be desirable to use the PSD format can also be saved as a TIFF which converts it into a file format that is compatible with a wider range of software than the PSB. This being useful as it enables the user to save the image in a more efficient way which will work best with the software they will be using. However , overall the PSB would be the best choice as size is the main concern , it will save the image in high quality within the terms of resolution and colour depth better than the JPEG format as the pixels in the image wont be exposed.

Leaflet suitable graphics:

Like GIFs, PNG file formats support transparency, although PNG supports variable transparency, this means that the user of the software can change the settings of transparency of the image. This is a positive aspect but older versions of software or less compatible software wont show the transparency settings in the same way , thus meaning it could be ineffective and unattractive to the eye. This file format is downloadable twice as fast as GIF images as they have two dimensional interlacing. JPEG format can also be used as it is the sort of image compression that works well with complex images , it decreases the files size by removing colours that aren't visible to us , there is a downside to this because if important colour image information is lost it wont be recovered unlike the PNG format. JPEG can also be loaded in stages which slows down the time taken to download.

Unit 35, Task 1 , M1

Drawbacks of the software mentioned in P1.

Macbook:

Again Apple products tend o be more expensive than their PC counterparts , an average laptop can start at £500 which is considerably less, so less money can be spent thus not going over budget. Apple tends to cater to the middle- to high-end market, and thus, for those seeking a budget notebook, the cost is a major drawback.. Many programs, from business programs to games, are not available as software on a Mac notebook, the same as with the iMac. While it is possible to run some or all of these Windows-based programs on PC emulators on a Mac, emulators tend to be slow and not without bugs. As a result, PC users tend to have a wider variety of software options than Mac users. Prices range from £1,00.

Apple Magic mouse:
The drawbacks of this product is that the Multi-Touch features work with Macs only.In addition to the fact that the Mouse isn't large enough to fill the natural curve of your hand. The main factor of price coming in at £59 causing a hindrance to the budget at hand.

Canon Camera:

It is quite expensive, has no WiFi or inbuilt geotagging in addition to High colour saturation in tone priority mode, this undesirable for preferred colour tones.

Despite its reduced size,  the body is not as small as most compact system cameras because it still has to accommodate the DSLR mirror.
Another point is that the LCD is not articulating and the Dynamic range and high ISO performance isn't as good as some competing models. The camera is limited concerning features. It is an overally limited camera to use , not entirely good for a business that cant afford drawbacks. The price being quite expensive as well.

USB:
There aren't any huge drawbacks of a Sandisk USB apart from the price of £39 and that it can be easily lost if not looked after , meaning a possible loss of important files.

RAM

A RAM stores easily accessible information but it takes up quite a lot space and the cost is a huge drawback of taking up vasts amounts of space and also the cost is a major disadvantage. The price ranging from the hundreds.

Graphics Card & sound card:
Graphics cards may have glitches due to too much information causing the card to overheat meaning the internal computer will be damaged. They range from £10 to £3,500 depending on the quality of the card and its features of HDMI capability. This is the same with a sound card although if it gets damaged it doesn't allow sound and is expensive to replace.

iMac:
Most computers use a windows operating system, most games and many other software are designed to work with windows. If an iMac-user wants to use these programs, he can buy and install windows on his iMac and alternate between operating systems, but this obviously adds to the expense, this being a drawback as the iMac itself is already a high price, thus making the business profit income plummet. In addition the iMac's components not being user-replaceable makes them even more expensive , this and apples extended warranty is more expensive than any other. The price of the iMac being £1,699. A high price to pay for a new business.

Wacom Graphics tablet:
The disadvantages of the Wacom , is that the current software doesn't copy settings from one application to another , making working around different software difficult to the user. There are also limitations to setting up custom multi-touch gestures , this not being helpful as the designer wont be able to change the way the tablet works with the way he personally prefers to work.

Time Machine:
The downside to the time machine , back up hardware is that he backup doesn't record differences inside a file. It will aso deleted backups according the time schedule for example hourly back ups expire after a day, wheareas daily backups experie after thrity one days.In the worst case all backups can be lost if there is a bug and only save a copy of the most recent back up. Lastly the time machine is only compatible with apple products and to run the destination volume must be larger in size than the boot volume.

Printer:
The cost of a printer causes problems to the user as the cost for specific high quality creates unprofitable income for businesses and other users as the ink will have to be replaced constantly,so that good quality work can be produced.
Branded ink will need to be brought so that the customer will value it more, leading in more cost. Things like paper waste is also apparent ,and contributes in deforestation.

Samsung monitors:
The main defect to the Samsung monitors is that they have been reviewed to have a lot of problems after the first year of owning them , For example the screens sometimes go blank and are easily infected by viruses if not protected correctly.

One limitation that all of the hardware have is the cost. The cost is a hindrance concerning all of these products as they don't allow the buyer to purchase products in large quantities as the individual products are so expensive. Due to he products being so expensive means that the quality is very high. This also means if the hardware malfunctions then the cost to repair it is going to be even more expensive, setting back the business' profits a huge amount.

Copyright Report.

The laws of copyright are as follows; Everyone is unauthorized to use any image or artistic work without the copyright holders permission, this is excused if the image has been legally modified with a licence , approved by the owner themselves. No matter if the image has been manipulated it is still the owners obsession  thus meaning the original licence of the unedited image then here applies.

Although this has been said , in some situations images can be purchased from a stock image website. This being legal because an official transaction to the owner has been made to allow you to use the image , however it is always encouraged to clarify the site is copyright free to avoid any dilemmas. If any such person tries to advertise the work then legal action will be taken , likely ending up in court and the culprit being sued. This being classed as plagerism.

Summarily, copyright issues are to be highly avoided due to the legal implications. The research i have done , has proved that copyright is a big issue in today's advanced, technology dependent world. Overall copyright is to be completely aborted due to the previous mentioned outcomes.

Unit 35.Task 1. P2.

Customer one.

This graphic will need to be a vector graphic as they are scale-able , this meaning that during re-sizing they don't loose quality. Due to vectors being mainly used for lines and curves it will be beneficial as the image may need to be enlarged or the shape changed. When creating the band logo, I will use software such as Photoshop and Illustrator. With using Photoshop i will be able to adjust the image to suit preferred preferences concerning the quality rating. Photoshop is a vector file with the format being P.N.G. This file format enables additional information to be stored within the image saved, as well as preventing image data loss. With Illustrator i can edit the image and change colour palettes ,font sizes, contrast and other undesired prospects, this being done to improve the quality of the graphic in addition to making sure everything is displayed correctly and clearly. The file format for this is AL this is just an extension of a vector graphic , this can be imported into Photoshop and the different images can be combined.
Customer two.
This graphic will require me to use Illustrator as it enables the text that will be put onto the van to be eye catching, bold and non pixelated. This is important as the van's appearance and informational text will be what attracts business.Although illustrator is based upon vector graphics it will create better quality text, that will correspond with the topic. Being able to change the proportion , colour and text size , the van will appear from appealing to a possible customer. Overall it will be a bitmap and the file format will be a PDF but can then be converted to an EPS which then makes it compatible to that of an image format.
Customer three.
The graphic image for this customer will be a bitmap graphic as it will not need to be enlarged as it would be of the right size anyway. Bitmap images cannot be altered as they are made up of pixels. The software I will use to create this image will be Illustrator as it can enable more than two images to be incorporated, this can also mean text. This is desirable because it can make the image more eye catching and interesting. This graphic will be saved as a PDF because it contains both images and text although its a vector graphic.

Unit 35, task 3, p3 +m2

P3 : Annotations.

Clearly placed in the window area of the van is the company's logo ' Brick Break', i have chosen this due to it being a popular digital game that involves building bricks, thus playing on the Builders work area. The van involves a colour scheme of oranges, reds, and a range of browns , with the texture of the van being a brick like , layered visual , to then collaborate with the work area even further. To make it easier i used the fill tool to make all of the van an orange colour. This makes it visually clear what the van's appearance is portraying. To create the layered brick effect i used the shape tool and created several rectangles and filled them in different colours, grouped them together , then copied and pasted them around the van. I have chosen a Bold , black font in size 50 to contrast with the background of the van so people looking at it will remember the name. Due to this, it makes the van more attractive in appearance as it uses imagery to portray a successful, professional business.Underneath the text the logo is a three simple rectangular shape which links to the simplistic business name, therefore it will be easier to remember to a possible customer.I made the logo by again using the shape tool and manipulating the rectangle by using the transform tool to round of and smooth the edges. All other aspects of the van are normal components of a van , eg lights and indicators. I made this image in a ai. format as it enabled me to manipulate the image as its a illustrator format. The resolution isnt as good as the photoshop resolution as the brick detail doesn't need to be vivid therefore the final image will be viewed on the computer so the resolution is around 72.

The logo consists consists of a question mark and a exclamation mark,i imported and image and usedthe wand tool to trace the image and used the transform tool to change it into the style i wanted. I have done this because the band i have chosen is Panic at the disco ! The shape placement represents the exclamation mark , this draws the fans in and suggests that the band is 'now' and current in the music industry.  I have put the band's picture inside the circular point because its the main focus point being the period in the exclamation mark featured in the band name, i used a shape tool to create the circle. I used an image of a band member at the top of the question mark because its appealing to fans to see the appearance of the members. I also used a bold outline in grey to create an eye catching effect as it gives a 3D effect. The colour can also be changed to suit the bands personal opinions so its more personal to them and their devoted fans. The tools i used to create this are the fill tool to fill in the two different colours i also added another layer and copied and pasted the image on top of each other to make it stand out. Another tool i used is the line tool to go round the shape to make it smoother.  I then transferred the two images into illustrator and placed them in the places i wanted them to be. I made this image in a PSD file format as it enables the overall finished piece to have a high quality , this also means the resolution will be higher as the detail and smoothness of the image is better.

For this customer i have used a pink and orange colour range so it goes with the young child's profile. I used pleasant images to represent how good and friendly the nursery will be for the child. I have used bold texts so its easy to read and draws in attention  i have also included a time table to show when the nursery is and isn't open, this provides extra information. The information is overall simple and welcoming regarding the care of children, although colours, fonts and font size can be changed to suit the nursery's actual appearance. To sum it up , the flyer is simplistic in every way to get information across clearer. For this leaflet i simply used the template tool to create the basic format of the flyer. I then inserted the images and used the outline tool to change the colour , i then selected the image format tool and manipulated the outline of the image to different shapes. For the text i inserted a text box and changed font sizes. I made this in a publication format as it enabled me to change the layout to suit the leaflet preferences. The resolution of the image is around 70 as it will be viewed on the computer.
